About The Author

Gibi wearing red t-shirt standing on the starboard bridge wing.

Welcome aboard! I’m Gibi, the writer behind every article on Captain’s Mode.

I am a seasoned seafarer with over a decade of sea service, primarily serving as a Bosun on board Tanker vessels. My journey has taken me through the rough waters of the North Sea and Bay of Biscay, to the busy ports of the Mediterranean and the Baltic Sea.

While I served as the foreman of the deck crew, I also passed the Officer in Charge (OIC-NW) Licensure Examination. This unique combination allows me to bridge the gap between practical ‘on-deck’ seamanship and the theoretical compliance required by officers.

My goal is simple: To share hands-on expertise and ‘treasure trove’ stories to help fellow seafarers—especially cadets—navigate their careers safely.

The Personal Side

When I’m not writing about SOLAS regulations or deck maintenance, you’ll find me appreciating the seaman’s life. My love for the mesmerizing beauty of the night sky, reading in front of the endless ocean, and enjoying shore leaves is immeasurable.

(And yes, the delightful steak and ice cream combo is a Sunday tradition I still look forward to!)
